Signal Flint Strength Coaching
Quiet weight room with loaded barbells and racks under low daylight

Private strength coaching

Train for the next forty years

Signal Flint is a small studio built around one idea: you should leave every session slightly stronger than the person who walked in, and still want to come back on Thursday. Coaching is one-to-one, unhurried, and written for your week rather than a template.

  • Private studio One session at a time — no queueing for a rack.
  • Solo or paired Train alone, or with a partner who shares your goal.
  • Remote plans Written programming if you'd rather train in your own gym.

The coach

Rowan Vale, and a plain way of working

I spent years watching capable people quit training because the plan assumed a life they didn't have. So Signal Flint starts the other way round: what your week actually looks like, what your body is currently willing to do, and what you want to still be doing in a decade.

From there we build slowly and deliberately. Barbells and dumbbells for most of it, because loading something heavy and putting it down again remains the most reliable thing in the room. Everything is coached, recorded and reviewed — you always know why you're doing a movement.

  • iTechnique before load. We earn weight; we don't borrow it from your lower back.
  • iiWritten sessions. Every block is planned in advance and shared with you, not improvised at the door.
  • iiiHonest scaling. Bad sleep, long week, sore knee — the session adapts instead of collapsing.

Programmes

Three ways to work together

Pick the one that fits how much coaching you want in the room. You can move between them later — most people do.

01 — One to one

Coached sessions

Full attention for the whole hour. Best if you're returning after a break, working around something that hurts, or you simply want technique watched properly.

  • Movement and history review at the start
  • Session written before you arrive
  • Notes and loads logged for you
  • Between-session check-in by email

60 minutes · once or twice weekly

02 — Paired

Two on the floor

Bring a partner, sibling or friend with a similar goal. You each get your own programme; you just share the hour, the kit and the accountability.

  • Separate plans, shared session
  • Alternating sets so nobody stands idle
  • Good for building a lasting habit
  • Same logging and review as one to one

75 minutes · weekly

03 — Remote

Written programming

For confident lifters who train elsewhere. You get a structured block built for the equipment you actually have access to, plus a video review of your main lifts.

  • Four-week blocks, adjusted each cycle
  • Built around your available kit
  • Lift video reviewed with written feedback
  • One live call per block

Four-week blocks · train on your own schedule

How it works

From enquiry to first block

No commitment before we've met and agreed the plan makes sense for you.

01

Consultation

A relaxed conversation in the studio. Training history, anything that currently hurts, the week you're realistically working with, and what you'd like to be able to do.

02

First block

Four weeks with a clear focus. We establish your main movements, find sensible starting loads and get the habit properly attached to your calendar.

03

Review and rebuild

At the end of each block we look at what moved, what stalled and what you enjoyed, then write the next one. Progress stays visible instead of vague.

Inside the studio

A quiet room and good kit

No mirrors wall to wall, no music you didn't choose. Just enough equipment to train seriously, and space to move.

Platform and rackSquat, press, hinge and pull, coached rep by rep with loads logged.
Dumbbells racked in ascending weight order along a studio wall
Full dumbbell rangeSmall jumps between weights, so progress never has to be a leap.

Questions

Before you enquire

The things people ask in the first email. If yours isn't here, put it in the form and I'll answer properly.

I haven't trained in years. Is that a problem?

It's the most common starting point here, and it's a good one — there's nothing to undo. We begin with movements that feel manageable, keep the first weeks deliberately modest, and add load only once the pattern looks settled.

What if I have an injury or something that flares up?

Tell me about it in the consultation. I coach around plenty of grumbly shoulders, knees and backs by choosing better positions and ranges rather than avoiding training. If something needs clinical assessment first, I'll say so plainly rather than work around it.

What should I bring or wear?

Clothes you can squat in, flat shoes with a firm sole, and a water bottle. Everything else is in the studio. If you'd like to use your own belt or shoes, bring them.

How do cancellations work?

Life happens. Let me know as early as you can and we'll move the session within the same week wherever the diary allows. Blocks are written with a little slack for exactly this reason.

Consultation

Tell me what you're aiming at

Send a few lines about where you are now and what you'd like to change. The consultation itself is a conversation, not a sales pitch — if Signal Flint isn't the right fit, I'll tell you that too.

I reply to every enquiry personally, usually within a couple of working days, with two or three times that could work for a first visit.
